Where we are
Countries have recognized that climate change presents an ever growing threat to development, poverty eradication efforts, and the welfare of their citizens. The impacts of climate change are already being felt on every continent. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the world’s greenhouse gas emissions are continuing to increase and on the present path, global temperature rise will far exceed the goal to limit of two degrees Celsius that countries have agreed upon to avoid the most dangerous impacts of climate change.
2014 was the hottest year on record and 14 of the 15 warmest years on record have all occurred in the 21st century. Sea levels continue to rise, Arctic sea-ice is retreating, and there are more severe weather events, including extended droughts and floods.
